Nepal Wushu Federation Achieves Historic Success at South Asian Wushu Congress 2026
The Nepal Wushu Federation has achieved a historic milestone at the South Asian Wushu Congress and Election held on May 22, 2026, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, securing several prestigious positions in the South Asian Wushu Federation.
President of the Nepal Wushu Federation, Bir Bahadur Tamang, was elected as the Vice President of the South Asian Wushu Federation, marking a proud achievement for Nepalese wushu.
Likewise, General Secretary Lhakpa Tsering Lama was elected as Associate Secretary, while Vice President Dadhiram Sitoula secured the position of Board Member.
In addition, Ratan Bahadur Khati, an International IWUF A Grade Sanda licensed referee from Nepal, was elected as a Member of the Technical Committee of the South Asian Wushu Federation.
Similarly, Govindra Bahadur Shahi was elected as Member of the Traditional Wushu Committee, while Nikesh Shrestha was elected as Member of the Marketing and Development Committee.
International IWUF Coach Juni Rai was also elected as Member of the Women Development Committee.
The congress and election were attended by representatives from six South Asian countries — India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The event was graced by ambassadors and embassy officials of participating nations, the Director of National Sports of Sri Lanka, the Vice President of the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee, and representatives from the Chinese Embassy.
During the election, Bhupendra Singh Bajwa of India was elected as President, while Manel Dharmakeerthi of Sri Lanka was elected as General Secretary of the South Asian Wushu Federation.
The Congress further announced that the South Asian Wushu Championship and Referee Seminar will be held in India in October 2026. The federation also decided to publish its annual calendar of activities and events in the near future.
The remarkable achievement of Nepalese officials in the South Asian Wushu Federation is considered a proud moment for Nepal and a significant step forward for the development and international recognition of Nepalese Wushu.
